I am honored to serve as a member of the Bryan ISD Board of Trustees since 2016. I believe...
1. All children should be taught to their full potential. Whether they are the life skills student developing life and workforce skills, the student who wants to become an underwater oilfield welder, or the National merit scholar who wants to become a surgeon, all students deserve to be moved forward academically and vocationally. There is not one “right” path. Differentiated programs serve students where they are to develop and maximize their potential.
2. The teacher makes the difference. The individual decisions made by teachers in the classroom are the most important to students attending our schools. Attracting and retaining the best teachers should be a high priority for any district. All staff in our district (bus drivers, maintenance, custodial, food nutrition, nurses, technology, groundskeepers, and others) contribute to the success of our students and are essential members of our team.
3. Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships are all important in public education. We can’t talk about a rigorous core curriculum without also focusing on making those skills relevant to the real world, while developing relationships with our students, teachers, and community members. This philosophy highlights the importance of career and technical education and extra-curricular activities that help give school meaning to young people to keep them actively engaged and enrolled in school.
I am a parent, professor, and former high school teacher. I believe in the power of public education and the independent school district to best serve the needs of the students in the local community. I serve on the school board to ensure that the students and our families in Bryan ISD continue to be served in the best ways possible.
